50's Les Paul Wiring

50s wiring Les Paul

50's style Les Paul wiring diagram - this diagram is based on our Les Paul Wiring Kit and makes use of Gibson style braided guitar wire and orange drop capacitors. Apart from the components used, the main difference between a 50's style Les Paul and a modern version is simply down to the location of the capacitors. In the vintage setup, the pickup is soldered alone to the volume pot whereas in the modern version it is soldered with the capacitor to the volume pot. This changes the output value and also acts somewhat as a treble bleed by maintaining the high end frequencies as the volume is rolled off. This wiring diagram is suitable for any guitar using 2 humbuckers and a 3-way toggle switch.

For a detailed version of 50s Les Paul wiring, refer to our Les Paul wiring guide.
